Who Supports the ARDA?

The ARDA is generously support by the Lilly Endowment, the John Templeton Foundation, Chapman University, Pennsylvania State University, and Indiana Univerity-Purdue University Indianapolis.  More information on the history and purpose of the ARDA can be found on our About the ARDA page.

What is Provided by the ARDA?

The ARDA includes more that 1,000 different American and international data collections submitted by the foremost religion scholars and research centers in the world.  Each of these collections can be reviewed online or downloaded from our Data Archive.  In addition, the ARDA includes family trees mapping out the lineage of major world religions, and the historical trends and family trees for hundreds of American religious groups.  The American Religion Timelines offer additional information and images on religious events, groups, people, and movements across American history.

What Can I do at theARDA.com?

Below is a small sample of what can be done with the features and data available on theARDA.com:

  • Produce reports, maps, and charts on religious adherence for hundreds of religious groups using the U.S. Religion Census data.
  • Generate detailed national and regional reports that rely on the World Religion Database, the Religion and State Project, the United Nations and other highly trusted data sources.
  • Create a detailed demographic and religious profile of your local community or neighborhood using data from the U.S. Census, Data Axle and U.S. Religious Census.
  • Explore world maps that reveal national differences in religion, politics, demographics, economic development and the relationship between religion and the national government.
  • Browse major survey findings, as revealed in charts and tables, on the religious beliefs and behaviors of Americans. 

Who Can Use theARDA.com?

Thanks to the supporters listed above, the ARDA is free of charge and available to all.  The ARDA was founded in 1997 to democratize access to the best data and information on religion.  The menu toolbar highlights a few of the services available for research, teaching and congregational or community planning.

How do I Start Using theARDA.com?

Use the Main Menu Bar above to access the various features of the ARDA.  Hover over the items in the menu bar and a drop-down menu appears showing features for the hovered-over item.  Then hover over the sub-categories in the left column of the drop-down menu.  Features for each hovered-over sub-category will appear within the drop-down menu.  You can then click on the title or image of these features to access each feature.
