The Measure of American Religious Tradition (RELTRAD) - Syntax File
Created by Jerry Park, this syntax file categorizes individuals into religious traditions based on the scheme developed by Steensland and colleagues (2001) in "The Measure of American Religion: Toward Improving the State of the Art." Popularly known as "RELTRAD," individuals are categorized into seven groups: evangelical Protestant, mainline Protestant, black Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, other religion, and nonaffiliated. The Steensland and colleagues article has been cited over 1,200 times and has been widely used in the scientific study of religion.
Directions: The syntax files below can be run with any of the General Social Survey data files, except the two "Panel Data" files (i.e. GSSPANEL and GSSPANEL2).
