Summary

The Faith Communities Today 2010 national survey brings together 26 individual surveys of congregations. Twenty-four were conducted by or for partner denominations and faith groups, representing 32 of the country's largest denominations and traditions. The common core questionnaire of the survey replicates more than 150 questions from the 2000, 2005 and 2008 surveys, plus a special section on the 2008 recession. This dataset contains the FACT 2010 data from the Assemblies of God.

The ARDA has added three additional variables to the original data set to enhance the users' experience on our site.

Collection Procedures

The FACT (Faith Communities Today) 2010 survey of U.S. Assemblies of God (AG) churches was conducted in November 2010. Each sampled congregation was mailed a printed questionnaire under the name of the AG General Secretary Dr. James T. Bradford, by the Hartford Institute for Religion Research (HIRR).

Congregations were also given the option to complete a web version of the questionnaire. The address of the web survey was included in the mailed questionnaire.

Sampling Procedures

The total population of U.S. Assemblies of God congregations, from which the sample was drawn, numbered nearly 12,500. Starting with all official churches, congregations with invalid mailing addresses were excluded. New churches (i.e., opened in 2010) also were omitted. The remainder were stratified by Sunday morning worship attendance and geographic location.

Systematic sampling was used to select 1,300 churches. Usable surveys totaled 306, for a response rate of 24 percent.
