Citation

Jones, R. P., & Cox, D. (2021, September 28). PRRI-RNS Religion News Survey, March 2011.

Summary

The PRRI/RNS Religion News Survey was conducted by Public Religion Research Institute, in partnership with Religion News Service, to examine attitudes on breaking news and emerging issues at the intersection of religion and politics. This survey examines attitudes about the relationship between God and natural disasters. Questions gauged beliefs about whether God controls everything that happens in the world and is responsible for natural disasters. The survey also asked about the recent tsunami that struck Japan and gauged support for U.S.-sponsored disaster relief.

The ARDA has added six additional variables to the original data set to enhance the users' experience on our site.

Collection Procedures

Telephone interviews were conducted in English only, under the direction of Opinion Research Corporation among a nationwide sample of 1,008 adults, 18 years of age or older, in the continental United States. Interviews were conducted from March 17-20, 2011. All interviews were conducted on landline telephones. The randomly sampled telephone numbers were subject to up to four different call attempts.

Sampling Procedures

The sample was derived by an unrestricted random-digit dial procedure, which minimizes serial bias and includes both listed and unlisted telephone numbers. Only one interview was conducted within an individual household. The sample was fully replicated and stratified by region to increase its representativeness.
