Summary

The PRRI/RNS Religion News Survey was conducted by Public Religion Research Institute to examine attitudes on breaking news and emerging issues at the intersection of religion, values and public life. This survey investigated attitudes about the proposed construction of an Islamic community center and mosque in lower Manhattan near ground zero. Questions gauged the extent to which respondents had followed the news about the proposed Islamic community center, support for its construction and whether they considered the site of the World Trade Center to be sacred ground.

The ARDA has added six additional variables to the original data set to enhance the users' experience on our site.

Collection Procedures

Telephone interviews were conducted in English only under the direction of Opinion Research Corporation (ORC) among a nationwide sample of 1,005 adults, 18 years of age or older in the continental United States. Interviews were conducted from August 20, 2010 to August 22, 2010. All interviews were conducted on landline telephones. The randomly sampled telephone numbers were subject to up to five different call attempts.

Sampling Procedures

The sample was derived by an unrestricted random-digit dial procedure, which minimizes serial bias and includes both listed and unlisted telephone numbers. Only one interview was conducted within an individual household. The sample was fully replicated and stratified by region to increase its representativeness.
