Midwest Beachy Amish Mennonite (1970s - Present) - Religious Group
Religious Family: Mennonite/AmishReligious Tradition: Evangelical Protestant
Description: The Midwest Beachy Amish Mennonites are an Old Beachy denomination with origins dating back to the 1960s, when the Old Beachys and revivalist Beachys competed for influence within congregations. As the revivalists became the more dominant group, Old Beachys began to withdraw from the denomination, including emigrating to new territories. The Old Beachy churches in Paris, Tennessee, grew rapidly during the 1970s and 1980s, though would be virtually out of the region by 2000, settling in Illinois and Kentucky. These churches remained informally associated, but needed a name for legal reasons after starting the Conservative Anabaptist Service Program for young men. They chose the name Midwest Beachy Amish Mennonite.
