Tampico Amish Mennonite (Unknown - Present) - Religious Group
Religious Family: Mennonite/AmishReligious Tradition: Evangelical Protestant
Description: The Tampico Amish Mennonites date back to the Amish-Mennonite movement of the late 1800s. The group organized around the teachings of John Kauffman, a layman Amish-Mennonite who preached in a trance. Though the broader Amish-Mennonite movement rejected this practice, Kauffman started a separate congregation with his own followers. As a group, they maintain many of the conservative practices of the Amish but do allow for some modern conveniences. The teachings of Kauffman are used alongside scripture, as members consider him a prophet of his time.
