Description: The Independent Society of New York was founded in 1899, out of the original Theosophical Society (1875) by J. H. Salisbury and Donald Nicholson. The association later attracted H. W. Percival, whose publication, The World, outlived the Independent Society and remains active. This association is distinct from the Australia-based Independent Theosophical Society.
