Description: The Lutheran Council in the U.S.A. was formed in 1967 to bring the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, the Lutheran Church in America, and the American Lutheran Church together, replacing the old National Lutheran Council. The Missouri Synod was the first to leave in 1977, and the Lutheran Council in the U.S.A. fell apart once the Lutheran Church in America and the American Lutheran Church left to join with the Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches to form the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
