Description: The Avatamsaka Buddhist Lotus Society was founded in 1985, but has its origins in the 1978 visit of Ven. Master Cheng Yi to the United States. Over additional visits to the United States in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Ven. Master Cheng Yi helped catalyze the desire to spread the Buddhist Huayen School and Avatamsaka Sutra. Since its founding in California, the association has since built multiple buildings and founded other groups.
