Description
In the 1950s, merger talks began to form between the Wesleyan Methodist Church and the Pilgrim Holiness Church, two denominations who shared a common tradition in the holiness movement. On June 26, 1968, they finally merged to form the Wesleyan Church. The group emphasizes that Christians should witness a conversion experience and be entirely sanctified. Affirming evangelical Protestant theology, they are associated with the National Association of Evangelicals, as well as the Christian Holiness Association. Missions and evangelism also are a strong focus.
As of 2010, they have 1,614 American congregations and more than 250,000 adherents.
