Baptist Missionary Association of America - Timeline Event

Time Period

1950

Description

The Baptist Missionary Association of America (BMAA) split from the American Baptist Association after a constitutional dispute regarding voting rules and authority over church-run seminaries. Both denominations are Landmark Baptists, believing in the priority of the local church and the reality of a single, traceable tradition of believer's baptism running back to the early Christian church. As of 2008, the BMAA claims 126,056 members in 3,239 churches, making it the largest association of Landmark Baptists in America.
