Mohler, Albert "Al" - Timeline Biography

Time Period

10-19-1959

Description

Al Mohler is the president and an alumnus of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, the flagship seminary for the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). Mohler's appointment as president in 1993 came after a drawn out conflict between theological conservatives and moderate liberals within the denomination. Mohler, just 33 years old at the time, had been strongly influenced by Francis Schaeffer, Carl Henry, and D. James Kennedy. With the backing of the conservative-dominated seminary board of trustees, Mohler forced the resignation of faculty members who either refused to acknowledge the inerrancy of the Bible or supported the ordination of women. Mohler is on the board of James Dobson's "Focus on the Family" advocacy group, a signer of the 2009 Manhattan Declaration, and one of the more prominent figures in the resurgence of Reformed theology in the SBC.
