Winfrey, Oprah - Timeline Biography
Time Period

Description
Oprah Winfrey (1954-present), famed host of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and billionaire media mogul, emerged in the early 21st century with another title: America’s populist pastor.
Winfrey captured the spiritual imagination of millions of Americans with moral messages, philanthropy and an exhortation to live your dreams. Reared a Baptist, Winfrey’s gospel defies labels -- embracing mind-body connection, New Age ideas, Jesus and pluralism.
Her unofficial flock isn’t limited to the growing number of people with no religious affiliation. In a 2006 Beliefnet poll, one-third of respondents said Winfrey had "a more profound impact" on them than their pastors. Winfrey credits her success with being able to make "profound connections with the human spirit."
In 2011, she ended "The Oprah Winfrey Show" after 25 seasons and launched the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), joining her magazine and other enterprises to promote "her vision, values and interest."
