Description
John Piper is the former pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis. His father had been a board member of Bob Jones University, but the younger Piper attended Fuller Theological Seminary before earning a doctorate at the University of Munich. Piper is well-known in evangelical circles because of Desiring God Ministries, a mass distributor of inexpensive books and sermons. In 2006, Piper -- along with Al Mohler and several other evangelical leaders -- started a biennial conference for evangelical pastors and lay leaders called Together for the Gospel. Through his books, sermons, and conferences, Piper has played a large role in the resurgence of Reformed theology in conservative evangelicalism in America since the 1980s.
